Devilish cocaine not a seller

A billboard image of a she-devil atop a can of a drink named after an illegal substance has been found unacceptable by the Advertising Standards Board. In a recent determination the Board considered that any implication that use of an illicit substance is acceptable (even sexy and cool) is contrary to the community's standards on health and safety.

Bare bottoms need covering

Advertisements recently considered by the Advertising Standards Board have been found to breach the AANA Code of Ethics. The Board has upheld complaints against an advertisement  which featured a man's uncovered bottom.

Violence in ads can go too far

Two research reports are available from the the ASB. One contrasts the legal and socio-ethical definitions of discrimination and vilification in relation to 20 advertisements previously considered by the Advertising Standards Board. The other looks at community perceptions of violence in advertising. Contact the ASB to purchase a copy of either report.
